Description

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for promoting international economic and social cooperation and development. ECOSOC serves as a forum for dialogue and collaboration among member states, as well as various specialized agencies, functional commissions, and non-governmental organizations. Its primary objectives include addressing global economic challenges, fostering sustainable development, and promoting social progress. ECOSOC plays a key role in coordinating the work of its subsidiary bodies, such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), to achieve broader international development goals. The council also conducts policy reviews, formulates recommendations, and provides a platform for discussions on a wide range of issues related to economic and social development, poverty eradication, and the promotion of human rights.
